So your application managed to get through the hundreds of other applications. Maybe you have a friend on the inside that helped push your application too. Now it’s time for an interview.

Most initial screening interviews are phone interviews. Their purpose is to get to know if the person they are interviewing are personable, knowledgeable about what they’re applying for and if they want to proceed to a more complicated style of interview.

Depending on your field, you may have a technical interview.

What is a Technical Interview? A Technical interview is an interview where the candidate is tested on their technical knowledge of the position they’re applying to.

For example, when I was applying for a Finance Fellowship program, I was interviewed on basic Finance terminology. It was important to review core financial concepts including technical vocabulary to demonstrate my knowledge.

Before your Interview, be sure to keep these 3 things in mind to successfully get the job!

1. Do your Research

Before a phone interview or an in person interview, you should do thorough research on the company and the position that you are interviewing for.
